Get Involved
There are a number of ways for MBA students to get involved in Honor and Integrity at Smeal.
There are a number of ways for graduate students to get involved in Honor and Integrity at Smeal.
Graduate Programs Honor Board
All graduate students in the Smeal College of Business are encouraged to get involved in the Academic Integrity process. To participate on the Graduate Programs Honor Board, students must receive Academic Integrity Pool Training. Pool training occurs during Orientation for MBA students and at the start of each semester for all other graduate students. Involvement in the Graduate Programs Honor Board includes the potential to be called in to serve on an Honor Code case. Students on the Board must maintain confidentiality of the case at all times and be prepared to serve at any time.
MBA Academic Integrity Committee
Each year three MBA students from the incoming first year class are elected by their peers to serve on the Academic Integrity (AI) Committee. The tenure for serving on the committee is two years. Students on the committee are actively involved in the AI process through monthly meetings with the AI Committee, program planning for MBA students around honor and integrity, review and improvement of the Honor Code process, and Honor and Integrity Orientation for incoming first year students. This committee is closely involved with the MBAA and the VP of Academic Affairs and Student Relations serves as the chair of this committee.
Ethical Issues Luncheons
Luncheons are offered each month throughout the semester with thought-provoking, real-world business ethics issues presented for discussion by Smeal faculty members and invited guests. Come out to listen and to share your viewpoint in a friendly, open session. Previous topics for luncheons include Economics & Ethics in Academia, Is Social Corporate Responsibility Ethical?, and The Ethics of Uncertainty: Truth in Advertising on the Averages.
AI Committee Luncheons
Luncheons are offered once each module featuring presenters from the Smeal faculty on topics the MBA AI Committee believes would be of benefit to the Smeal graduate community. Past topics include plagiarism and open discussions with Dean Jim Thomas. Students are welcome to come and share in the graduate community and have their questions answered in an open environment.
